Cocoa

The cocoa or cacao (Theobroma cacao) (butter and powder) is wonderful in skin care, just as it is when a piece of chocolate melts in the mouth. The yellowy hard butter which has a delicious chocolate aroma is solid at room temperature, but liquifies around body temperature, so it melts when it comes into contact with our skin.
Cocoa butter is very rich in antioxidants (much more than blueberries for instance), including vitamin E, which is great for skin as it helps to reduce the signs of aging and also works toward repairing damaged skin. Another antioxidant in cocoa, theobromin, is known to act as a vasodilator increasing the flow of blood to the surface of the skin, which tightens the skin and reduces puffiness.

Cocoa butter is high in fatty acids which help to retain moisture and build elasticity. Cocoa penetrates further than the top layer of the skin, meaning it hydrates deep-down and nourishes the skin. Cocoa has skin healing properties, being beneficial, particularly to sensitive and dry skin, calming irritations such as eczema and dermatitis.
It has also been suggested cocoa helps to reduce stretch marks.
